Students in Mrs. Lancaster's Human Development & Wellness class practiced relaxation techniques today to help work through any anxieties and stresses that tend to come up in life. The students laid on yoga mats, listened to calming music, and used breathing methods to help them relax- all while they smelled aromatherapy candles and the lights were out. Mrs. Lancaster encouraged the importance of referring back to these techniques when needed.

Ms. Carrell's Plant & Soil Science students participated in an experiment yesterday that helped teach them about pesticides and how easily they can become harmful when not used properly. Three students were given plastic gloves to wear and then had whipped cream sprayed into their hands. The whipped cream was to represent a pesticide and the girls were instructed to rub their hands together in order to coat the gloves in the cream. Ms. Carrell then asked them to remove the gloves but with no other instructions other than to throw them away. Once the gloves were removed, their hands were examined for any residual whipped cream and trace amounts were found. Ms. Carrell explained the importance of being careful when using pesticides as they are so harmful to the skin and very easily spread when used.

Last Friday, Chef Bragg's culinary students had the opportunity to compete in a "Chopped" competition under the direction of chefs from Bella Vitale Restaurant in Warsaw. Three teams, consisting of two students and one chef, each planned & prepared an entree' that guests sampled and voted on which dish they liked the best. Mauricio Carvajal & Isaac Netzley created a flank steak fajita dish paired with Spanish rice, sauteed vegetables, and tortilla crisps.  Ashley Nowaczynski & Zack McNulty presented their guests with a pork tenderloin stuffed with a sweet potato puree and served with a mango salsa. Olivia Najera & Mauricio Martinez took first place with their baked cod dish and won a three-piece knife set each. Special thanks to Bella Vitale Owner, Peggy Roulo, Executive Chef Blake Elick, and chefs Derrick Gamble & Matt Connett for partnering with us to make this event possible.

All proceeds from the event will go toward the culinary arts end of the year field trip to Indy later this month.
