Last week, Mr. Ksiezopolski taught his EMT students how to properly take manual blood pressures. These students have been hard at work practicing many new skills recently so that they can be ready to take their State Test to become licensed EMT's in the spring!

We recently welcomed a new instructor to our program, as well: Ms. Alicia Elder joined the WACC family in January and will help teach the EMT students, along with Mr. Ksiezopolski. We are happy to have her on our team!

Interested in this program? Check out the description & requirements below:

Emergency Medical Services prepares students for a state certification which may lead to a career in Emergency Medical Services. Examples of those careers include Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic. This course is designed for persons desiring to perform emergency medical care. Theories, techniques, and operational aspects of pre-hospital emergency care, within the scope and responsibility of the basic emergency medical technician are covered in this course. Students will learn to recognize the seriousness of the patient’s condition, use the appropriate emergency care techniques and equipment to stabilize the patient, and safely transport them to the hospital. The handling of victims of hazardous materials accidents is also addressed in this course. Opportunities for laboratory practice and clinical observation in a hospital emergency room and ambulance are also included to provide occasions for students to further develop clinical skills and the appropriate ethical behavior. Leadership skills are developed and community service opportunities are provided through participation in HOSA. Students are required to have specific shots which can be obtained from the family doctor or the county health clinic. Once completed and reaching the age of 18, the student can take the state test and if successful, become a licensed EMT.
