On Wednesday evening, May 4th, three members of the Warsaw Area Career Center Chapter of Business Professionals of America (BPA) took off for the BPA National Leadership Conference in Boston, Massachusetts. Attending the conference was Spencer Gareiss (senior), John Kuhn (senior), and Justin Stout (junior) along with their advisor Scott Schramm and his wife Anne.

In order to qualify for NLC the students must compete in their chosen contest at the local level. This was hosted at WACC in December with several other area school attending. They may compete in a maximum of 2 events. If a student finished in the top few of their contest they can attend the State Leadership Conference in Indianapolis. WACC took 34 students to Indianapolis in January for the state competition!

If a student finishes in the top of their competition at the state level they are qualified to attend the NLC. The three students listed above not only qualified in one, but all three qualified in both of their events! Justin qualified in JAVA Programming and Visual Basic Programming. John qualified in C++ Programming as well as JAVA Programming. Spencer qualified in the Personal Financial Management and Fundamental Accounting competitions!

Spencer finished 9th at Nationals in his Fundamental Accounting and took the 3rd place plaque in Personal Financial Management! These are great accomplishments at the national level! All students could also participate in “Open” events. In those Justin placed 10th in the Administrative Support Concepts event. There were 640 students that participated in that event!

The students attended the general sessions of the conference and had opportunities to attend different breakout sessions on leadership, BPA history, professional networking, and technology issues. Exploring Boston was also a lot of fun!

The Warsaw Area Career Center BPA also received certificates for Membership Explosion and 2016 BPA Cares Program. These are for a large jump in the membership of our local BPA Chapter and for community service as a chapter and individuals. We had nearly 80 members this year!
