WELDING TECHNOLOGY I
Course Overview
 
1st and 2nd Quarter SMAW
Students are expected to learn basic Stick welding in the flat and horizontal positions.
They are also expected to complete several basic torch welds as well as a torch and plasma cutting test.
Safety procedures and instruction on all other shop equipment is covered during this trimester.
3rd Quarter GMAW
Students will learn basic Mig welding in the flat and horizontal positions as well as machine set-up and maintenance.
Blue print reading and welding symbols are also covered during this trimester.
4th Quarter GTAW
The final trimester is devoted to Tig welding in the flat position on aluminum, steel and stainless steel. They will also learn machine set up and maintenance.
The last two weeks of this period are spent on their final exam in which the students are expected to build a box that is at least 6”x6”. It must have a lid, latch and handles. Students may not purchase anything; they must make everything from scratch. 
 
WELDING TECHNOLOGY II
Course Overview
 
1st and 2nd Quarter (SMAW)
Students are expected to learn Stick welding in out of position welds such as vertical and overhead.
They are also expected to complete several practice certification welds at this time.
A refresher course in safety procedures and instruction on all other shop equipment is covered during this trimester.
Advanced students are assigned all of our outside projects that come in from janitorial and maintenance staff. We receive these periodically throughout the year. AWS Certification Test at end of semester
3rd Quarter (GMAW)
Students will learn Mig welding in out of position welds.
Advanced blue print reading and welding symbols are also covered during this quarter. AWS Certification Test at end of quarter.
 
4th Quarter (GTAW)
The final trimester is devoted to Tig welding in out of position welds on aluminum, steel and stainless steel.
The last four weeks of this period are spent on their AWS Certification Test.
